Radon Gas Identified as Leading Cause of Cancer: January Declare

Radon Gas Identified
as Leading Cause of Cancer
January Declared National Radon Month

The World Health Organization and the EPA have announced a call to action for Americans to test their homes for Radon gas, which has recently been identified as the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers in the US.

Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive gas that seeps out of the ground and can enter homes and other buildings. Since radon is invisible and odorless, the only way to know if your home has dangerous levels is to conduct a Radon test.

Radon problems have been found in every county in the country, so the Surgeon General recommends testing all homes. It is estimated that as many as eight million homes are affected and predictions for 2012 are that between 15,000 and 20,000 deaths will occur from exposure to the gas unless steps are taken to correct this problem.

Together we can save lives by stopping America’s leading in-home killer. For more info, visit the National Radon Month website at www.radonmonth.org.
